You screamed out. A thug had you pinned to the wall of an alleyway, and his intentions were very clear.
“Quiet, bitch!” the thug hissed, slapping you across the face.
You let out a hiss of pain and tears form in the corner of your eyes. However, when you looked up again, you saw a familiar face. A blind face, so you couldn’t even warn him to leave without alerting your attacker.
But before you really had a chance to react, Matt lunged forward and punched the thug right in his temple.
“The hell, Matt! What were you thinking? What was that?” you exclaimed, bending down to examine the thug. He was out cold.
“Well, I forgot to put the mask on,” Matt said, nervously, as you stood back up. “And I’m going to have to get a new stick again. Threw it in an alley a few blocks back. I think I heard it roll under a dumpster.”
“Mask?” you asked, momentarily confused. Then realization hit you. “No way. You’re not THE guy in the black mask that everyone’s talking about. There’s no way.”
Matt just gave a nervous grin. “Yep, that’s me. Sorry I didn’t tell you before.”
“Well, that at least explains why you suddenly got so clumsy,” you comment, before hitting him lightly in the shoulder for lying to you.
“You’re not upset?” Matt asked. “A lot of people are in danger just because they know me. I wouldn’t blame you if you decided to run.”
“Hell no, I’m not running. You just saved my life, and I’m not exactly sure how. You ARE really blind, right?” You waved your hand in front of his face.
“Yes, I’m blind,” Matt replied, sounding amused. “I just have better hearing than people think that makes up for it.”
“So the stick?” you asked.
“Just for show. So people assume I’m just a normal blind guy,” Matt replied with a smirk. “Mind guiding me back home? I am blind and without a stick or a dog after all.” He held out his hand.
You rolled your eyes, knowing he was flirting AND using you to keep up his normal-blind-guy image at the same time. “Oh come on,” you said, taking his hand and leading him out of the alley.
