Gender Benders is a grassroots group for trans, gender variant, LGBT* folks and our allies. This is an incredible effort being made in South Carolina, and it needs help to be funded. Camp GB is about equipping LGBT* people with the support and skills to be leaders every day as we seek both legal and lived equality.

From their story: “Our first two years we packed people in like sardines on air mattresses at a local campground that donated space for our lodging. We have finally outgrown borrowed air mattresses and free office space. So, that’s why we’re moving Camp GB to a larger campground with real dormitories, beds, and a kitchen staff. Our leadership team is especially excited about these changes, because it will provide us with the opportunity to focus more of our time on programing. Relationship building and support are of utmost importance for our segment of the population. 41% of trans* people have attempted suicide. This means our community’s attempted suicide rate is nearly 10 times higher than the national average. We strive to increase connectivity among our members and provide them with coping skills, and most importantly, support. Trans* folks in South Carolina are chronically unemployed and underemployed as many of our people face discrimination and harassment in the workplace. We’re working hard to make camp accessible for all of our members, but we can’t do it without your help! 100% of what we are able to raise for Camp GB will go directly to our scholarship fund to increase accessibility for our members. Even a small donation will make a huge impact on the lives of camp attendees.”

Help out by spreading the word about Camp Gender Benders, or by donating even just $1, $5, anything you can to their donation page. Camp GB has already raised almost $800 of the $2500 they need to make their new exciting changes happen for this year!
