GO SEE SHAUN THE SHEEP

tarunadragon:

I realize this is directed towards people in the US (and Canada?) as Shaun the Sheep movie was released in the UK in February.

OK, Shaun the Sheep comes out tomorrow, Wednesday the 5th, although I’m guessing people will be more likely to see it on the weekend if at all (August 7th or 8th). PLEASE GO SEE IT.

What pisses me off is a movie underperforming for no other reason than that it’s in STOP-MOTION. I think it sends the message that animated movies are a checklist (i.e. they need X, Y and Z to be successful, regardless of quality? They all have to be CGI and celebrities?) Pirates, Paranorman and Frankenweenie in 2012 all underperformed (even though all were fresh on RT) and it put Henry Selick’s project on hold. What message does that send?

Also, it’s supposed to be a GOOD MOVIE, look at its rating on Rotten Tomatoes!

And that was 50 reviews (as opposed to like, 6 or something)! These are the same people who did Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit!

EDIT: It’s now 99%, 91 positive and one negative.

In addition to being in stop-motion, the movie is dialogue-free–sorta pantomime.

REASONS TO GO SEE IT OPENING WEEKEND

1. If the movie opens really well, it will stay in theaters longer (in the US). If it underperforms, more theaters will pull it which is why I encourage seeing it this weekend rather than later.

2. More of the movie ticket price goes to a studio in its early weeks, its later weeks the theater gets more of the price (which is why if a movie’s making a lot of money, I’d rather see it later in its run unless I really want the movie to do well and I don’t know if it will).

If you live in the UK and saw it, maybe you can vouch for me? Please signal boost if you have followers in the US, even if you’re from the UK and it already came out. So yeah, this movie is doing something different and it’s supposed to be really good so please go see it on its opening weekend! But not enough are talking about! Bring your friends (to sell more tickets)! See it again if you really like it! PLEASE SUPPORT THIS MOVIE~!
