so i saw this link on laverne cox’s twitter, and its an open casting call for a trans guy age 14-15 for “a series regular on an upcoming Netflix series from filmmakers Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling (The East, Sound of my Voice). Produced by Plan B (12 Years a Slave, The Departed) and Anonymous Content.” so spread the word i guess.

hey, does anyone have a source/confirmation for the casting agency?

my friend and i did some looking around and the account laverne retweeted from is being very vague about sourcing and internet searches arent bringing up anything on the agency. although its confirmed a new netflix series IS coming, theres no official call from netflix or the producers, no proper application anywhere, no details on deadlines, or any other signs of a professional casting call and its starting to feel kind of sketchy. theyre asking for names, photos, and locations of minors, so i think itd be better safe than sorry to check the legitness of this before this gets spread around any more.

PLEASE please reblog this until we can get this actually verified!

Oh shit ok thank GOD I came across this on my dash again today because yesterday I got way too excited at 2 am and was about to send a pic but then did some additional Googling and now it looks SUPER shady/more like a scam.

A Google search on how to tell legit casting calls brings me several results:

“Remember, real casting directors will always want a headshot, resume, acting reel, and for modeling things such as height, weight, size, etc. If all they ask for is an optional photo and contact info than beware. The scammers need the photo because the sales pitch involves a lot of flattery. The sales pitch is honed to make you feel special and chosen.”

Beware of “no experience necessary” acting, dance and modeling takes experience and training. Really, who is hiring actors who can’t act or fashion models that can’t walk? The only exception may be neighborhood fashion shows and student films.”

This is beginning to look like one of those scam things where they ask you to audition at some shady place and then ask you for money when you do the audition, which, from what I’ve learned, is always a scam and should not be trusted.

Especially for a new NETFLIX series you’d think they’d want experience acting… plus the agency has no actual website? Gosh sorry to bust everyone’s bubble but??? Please stay safe…! Honestly this sucks they’re taking advantage of tpoc like this. It looked too good to be true from the get-go and it most likely is 😦

From the (verified) twitter of one of the people making the show

The link in the person he is responding to’s tweet goes to the same exact casting call the OP of this links to.

It’s definitely always good to be cautious but this is legit.
